Perceptions about the exploitation of the Nexpa aquifer in the community of El Pericón, municipality of Tecoanapa, Guerrero, Mexico

In this work, the water problems presented by the community of El Pericón located in the municipality of Tecoanapa in the state of Guerrero were analyzed, based on the perception that the inhabitants have about the aquifer. The information was obtained from interviews of different social actors. The results showed that the majority of participants in the study perceive that the community's aquifer is only exploited by the lack of surface water in springs and streams, also by the prolonged shortage of water in the distribution network, and by the trade of water. The factors with the greatest impact on the exploitation of the aquifer are social and economic, since the demand for self-sufficiency is increasing. Another pressure factor is the extraction of water for sale, an activity carried out by local merchants and resellers who distribute water in neighboring communities. Deforestation and fires are also pressure factors for the aquifer. It is necessary, through of alternatives that allow homes to capture rainwater, carry out wastewater sanitation, reforest the area and carry out actions for the natural recharge of the aquifer. Furthermore, it is important to reduce, with similar alternatives, the pressure placed on the aquifer when other communities buy water extracted from the community where the research was carried out.
