The document describes how the support of CONAHCYT, through the National Network of Ethnobiological Gardens (Renajeb), has impacted the increase of the collection of the Bursera genus in the Botanical Garden of the Autonomous University of Guerrero (JB-UAGro). The species of the Bursera taxon, known locally as copales and cuajiotes, are plants that live mainly in deciduous tropical forests, of which they are important elements in its structure and physiognomy. In addition to their ecological relevance, they also have a cultural relevance, since they are used in traditional medicine, living fences, ritual uses and for the elaboration of crafts. Among the objectives of JB-UAGro is to promote knowledge of the genus through the conservation and permanent exhibition of specimens of its species. Through research projects, Renajeb has facilitated the increase of specimens of species that were not represented in the living collection of JB-UAGro, by expanding the geographic range of collection in municipalities of Guerrero, which has allowed a more complete representation of the diversity of the genus. Specimens of 14 species that were not part of the collection have been incorporated into the collection, which represents an increase of 77.7%. Another relevant support from Renajeb was the hiring of a specialized taxonomist for the precision in the scientific identification of both the specimens already established in the collection and the new additions. Currently, of all the member gardens of Renajeb, JB-UAGro stands out for the collection of specimens of 32 “ex situ” species of Bursera. The support provided by Renajeb strengthens this university garden in aspects related to research, conservation and dissemination of biological and cultural knowledge of the Bursera taxon.
