Civil society and non-electoral participation in Guerrero
Keywords:
Attitudes, Values, Political participation, Structural factors, PoliticsAbstract
The study explores the attitudes and values that underline the political participation of Guerrero citizens. Two questionnaires were designed to collect data: The first was administered using focus groups (FG) to members of civil society associations, members of business chambers, and professional associations, distributed across the state's seven regions; the second included semi-structured questions to researchers, former electoral officials, and relevant political actors. The study sought to identify the main reasons that prevent citizens from fully exercising their political rights. The data obtained show the existence of factors, some of them structural, that promote or inhibit political participation. The information obtained provides elements that can contribute to the design and development of public policies that strengthen Civic Culture in Guerrero.
