The role of women in agricultural systems

Agricultural development requires social actors as women, and they are who generate job force. From its basic role in the family organization and participation in agricultural activities, this study analyzes the role developed by women in agricultural production systems in the State of Guerrero. Sustained by an analysis of 398 surveys in 7 regions of the state of Guerrero, we found that most of women reach at least a primary level of study, with further limitations for kee-ping at school. Production is based on cattle breeding and the purpose of the revenue is to acquire food for family con-sumption. 77.1% said that for mothers involved in livestock activities, the most important function is to clean the barn,
milking and sell milk and taking care for small animals. Family members share labor activities and women are an im-portant resource as labor force, They are usually involved in the division of labor and acquiring more income, and a higher level of revenue is related with mother´s activities.
